    Introduction to Generative AI for District Leaders

     

    This workshop introduces District Leaders to Generative AI (GenAI) - a transformative technology reshaping the educational landscape. The session goes beyond theoretical knowledge, providing practical, hands-on experiences with AI tools and their application across a range of planning, teaching, and learning strategies. Participants will also dive into the ethical considerations surrounding GenAI and learn best practices for developing AI guidelines in their communities.

     

    Learning Objectives will include: 

     

    • Gain a shared understanding of GenAI, including its mechanics, capabilities, limitations, and increasing impact on classrooms and schools.
    • Learn prompt engineering with ChatGPT and Claude to effectively apply these tools to their own practice and support its implementation across the district community.
    • Build their own AI Literacy, increasing personal productivity and equipping them to guide policy, student achievement, and innovation.
    • Develop a deeper understanding of the ethical implications of GenAI and how to adopt these tools responsibly across their district.

    Dr. Tyler Tarver is Director of Learning & Development. He speaks at conferences across the country on various topics related to teaching, remote learning, administration, efficiency, technology, social media, and culture. He has amassed over 100 million views and 500k subscribers on his channels. He is the creator of a plethora of resources over at TarverAcademy.com, where he helps students/teachers with math, tech, and an assortment of educational needs. He's written 4 books, hosts multiple podcasts, makes short films, is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Apple Certified Foundations Trainer, Google Innovator, Google Certified Trainer, has been on the Google Forms Expert Team, and featured on Tosh.o. He’s been a teacher, facilitator, principal of an in-person and online school, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Communications, Personnel, and Technology, as well as Dean. Tyler has his Superintendent Certification and Doctorate in Educational Leadership - Harding University. Tyler loves helping people move forward and empowering them to be the hero in their classroom.

    Victoria Thompson is a K-12 Education Strategist for CDW Education. She began her journey teaching fifth and sixth grade math and science in Summerville, SC. After completing her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction she moved to the Seattle, WA area in 2018, where her career has pivoted to focusing on digital transformation, STEM integration in schools, technology in instruction, and using technology to bridge equity gaps in education. Prior to joining CDW Education in 2023, she worked at Microsoft Education and developed foundational relationships with key technology stakeholders to enable quality solution delivery and support for schools and districts. As a technology in education consultant she works with school districts across the world to address topics such as technology equity and capacity building with professional development, and has presented at conferences such as ISTE, FETC, TCEA, IDEAcon, ImpactEducation, CUE, and DigCitSummit on topics such as using technology to create inclusive math classrooms, the intersectionality of literacy and STEM, equity in instructional coaching, culturally responsive STEM education, and equity in educational technology. In 2023 she won the title of one of the Top 10 Most Visionary Leaders in Education by CIO Look Magazine. Additionally, she was recently awarded the title of one of the top 30 K-12 IT influencers in 2021 by EdTech Magazine and one of the ISTE Top 20 to Watch in 2023.
